Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce drew attention Friday night and not just for football.

While entering Lumen Field ahead of the Chiefs’ preseason matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, Kelce jogged right past a large fan sign that read: “WELCOME MR. TRAVIS SWIFT.”

The playful banner, held by a Seahawks fan near the tunnel, quickly became a viral moment after House of Highlights shared it on Instagram. The nickname mixes Kelce’s name with girlfriend Taylor Swift’s surname, a nod to one of sports and music’s most-followed couples.

The sign sighting came just two days after Swift made her first-ever appearance on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, an episode that broke multiple viewership records and fueled even more public fascination with the pair.

Chiefs Suffer Preseason Loss

On the field, the night didn’t go Kansas City’s way. The Chiefs fell 33-16 to the Seahawks in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes sat out, leaving backup Gardner Minshew to start. Minshew completed seven of nine passes for 70 yards and connected with veteran tight end Robert Tonyan for the team’s lone offensive touchdown.

Still, Kansas City’s offense managed only 156 total net yards, while the defense gave up 477 yards and four touchdowns to Seattle.

Seattle starter Sam Darnold led an early scoring drive and backup Drew Lock added two touchdown passes to Jake Bobo. Running back Damien Martinez also rushed for a score in the third quarter.

Despite the loss, Kelce’s quick run past the “Travis Swift” sign became one of the the game’s most-shared clip online.

This moment wasn’t just about a funny sign, it reflects a larger shift in how NFL players are viewed and followed. Kelce’s career now lives at the intersection of sports, celebrity relationships and global pop culture. His link to Swift has brought millions of new eyes to the league, many of them non-traditional football fans.

The banner’s appearance followed a media week dominated by Kelce and Swift’s relationship. On Wednesday, Swift joined “New Heights” for a nearly two-hour interview, discussing her new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," the Eras Tour and their romance.

The podcast episode also set a YouTube record for live concurrent viewers with 1.3 million and has since topped 16 million views in full.

Kelce has often credited Swift with influencing his outlook not just in life, but also in his growing entertainment career. In a recent GQ interview, he spoke about learning from her ability to command a crowd.

“She is so good at mesmerizing everybody and making everyone feel like it’s an intimate situation,” Kelce said. “That calmness and coolness, I grabbed that. It’s not always about bringing the most energy.”

The two have been together for nearly two years, keeping their early relationship private before going public in fall 2023. Swift’s appearance at Chiefs games and Kelce’s cameos in her tour life, including joining her on stage, have blurred the line between sports coverage and entertainment news.

Kansas City now turns its attention to the final preseason game before the 2025 regular season begins. While fans will watch for on-field improvements, Friday’s viral moment shows that wherever Kelce plays, the cameras and clever signs will be waiting.
