Barcelona’s summer signing Joan Garcia finally made his long-awaited La Liga debut against Mallorca, but it was far from a smooth introduction.

The goalkeeper’s place in the squad had already been surrounded by uncertainty due to registration issues, and when he was finally cleared to play, a fresh scare nearly forced him out before kick-off.

During the warm-up at Son Moix, Garcia suffered a painful dislocation of the little finger on his left hand.

What really happened?

The injury occurred in the early exercises, leaving the young shot-stopper visibly distressed. Just minutes before the referee’s whistle, he was seen heading down the tunnel, sparking concern that his debut might be delayed once again.

Luckily, Barça’s trusted doctor Ricard Pruna was quick to intervene. Cameras caught the moment Pruna spoke to Garcia before calmly repositioning the dislocated finger.

The goalkeeper was clearly in pain, covering his face and making visible gestures of discomfort as the treatment was carried out.

Despite the setback, Garcia showed determination to return to the pitch and continue as Barcelona’s starting goalkeeper for the match.

Clean sheet and three points

In the end, what started with tension ended in relief. Garcia not only took to the pitch for his first official start with Barcelona but also managed to deliver a solid performance.

The 24-year-old kept a clean sheet on his debut, helping the Blaugrana secure all three points in their La Liga opener.

The incident highlighted both the resilience of Garcia and the quick response of Barcelona’s medical staff. While his debut could have been remembered for the wrong reasons, it ultimately became a positive milestone in his career.

With the first hurdle overcome, Joan Garcia can now focus on establishing himself as a reliable figure between the posts for Hansi Flick’s side this season.
