ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are likely headed for a divorce “at some time.” Parsons and the Cowboys are currently in a standoff over his contract.

He hasn’t participated in training camp and there have been plenty of trade rumors if Dallas doesn’t meet Parsons’ demands, or vice versa. But as of now, Schefter said Parsons’ time in Dallas could be done after this season or the next.

“Today I feel comfortable saying I don’t think he’ll finish his career in Dallas. Today, I feel comfortable saying that, now I reserve the right to change my mind all of a sudden, the Cowboys definitely negotiate,” Schefter said on Unsportsmanlike. “But the way things have gotten this off season, the way people are talking, the way things sound, yeah, I would think that there is a real possibility that, if he plays this season, that this potentially could be the last year for Micah in Dallas, yes.”

As Schefter said, Parsons and the Cowboys beef is just pure drama. It’s almost like there wouldn’t be an NFL offseason without some Dallas soap opera storylines.

“This is part of the circus. You know, the circus has all kinds of acts, and some go sideways, and some go off the way that he thought,” Schefter said. “And I just think that, you know, Dallas always has drama. Jerry loves the drama. He likes to create drama. And there’s going to be drama with this now and going forward. Now again, like I said, for all I know the two sides decide to sit down at the bargaining table and they hammer out a deal that makes Micah the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. Could that happen?

“Yes, it could … There’s zero indication, zero, that that’s going to happen, that there’s going to be a reverse. And it sounds like at some point in time, whether that’s now after the season, after two seasons, it sounds like the two sides are headed towards a divorce at some time.”

Since as early as 2023, Parsons has been seeking to secure a new contract with the Cowboys. However, the organization has been hesitant to sign Parsons to a new long-term deal, especially since they can use their franchise tag on Parsons to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent until 2028.

The Cowboys exercised the fifth-year option on Parsons’ rookie contract this year, but will have no choice but to make a decision after the season concludes. Of course, Parsons’ holdout may cause the organization to make a decision sooner than anticipated.
