Daniel Jones is once again a starting quarterback
The Indianapolis Colts have named former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones their starter, per multiple reports.
The Giants originally selected Jones out of Duke with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft with the hopes that he would become their next franchise quarterback with Eli Manning in the final year of his contract.
While Jones flashed upside as a rookie, he never developed the way the Giants hoped. And while the team rewarded him with a four-year, $160 million contract following their trip to the playoffs in 2022, they moved on less than two years later.
Jones signed with the Minneapolis Vikings for the end of the 2024 season, but left to pursue an opportunity to start. He found that opportunity with the Colts, competing with the oft-injured and consistently inconsistent Anthony Richardson.
The Colts initially intended for Richardson and Jones to each start a game in the preseason, but Jones essentially got two starts after Richardson suffered an injury on his opening drive. Jones is currently 17 of 32 (53%) for 245 yards, with no touchdowns, no interceptions, and a sack, as well as one carry for 0 yards and a fumble.
