Bills Wire's Buffalo Bills 53-man preseason roster projection

Bills Wire's latest 53-man roster projection

The Buffalo Bills still have plenty of time to make roster decisions.

Another preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers awaits the team next weekend.

After that, all 32 teams in the NFL will have to trim their rosters to 53 players from the 90 currently on their depth charts. Roster cut-down day is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 26.

As far as the Bills are concerned, we don't have to wait.

Here is Bills Wire's latest 53-man roster projection for the team:

Quarterback (2)

Roster: Josh Allen, Mitch Trubisky.

Cut(s): Mike White, Shane Buechele.

After White's latest preseason outing against the Chicago Bears, this one is pretty cut-and-dry. He will be on the practice squad.

Running back (4)

Roster: James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, Reggie Gilliam (FB).

Cut(s): Frank Gore Jr. Jarveon Howard.

Gore had some good showings in the preseason, but only enough for a potential practice squad spot. Gilliam is a versatile piece the Bills love.

Wide receiver (6)

Roster: Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Tyrell Shavers, Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, Laviska Shenault.

Cut(s): KJ Hamler, Curtis Samuel, Kristian Wilkerson, Grant Dubose, Stephen Gosnell, Deon Cain.

Samuel just hasn't done enough with his injury issue to warrant a roster spot. This could all change pending a Gabe Davis signing after his free-agent visit that is upcoming.

Tight end (3)

Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (86) puts his hands up and catches successfully the pass while Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke (6) keeps pace with him during the second half of the Buffalo Bills wild card game against the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Jan. 12, 2025.

Roster: Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid, Jackson Hawes.

Cut(s): Zach Davidson, Keleki Latu.

As a draft pick, Hawes will ease into the third spot but someone will be right behind him on the practice squad.

Offensive line (9)

Roster: Dion Dawkins, David Edwards, Connor McGovern, O'Cyrus Torrence, Spencer Brown, Chase Lundt, Alec Anderson, Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, Tylan Grable.

Cut(s): Chase Lundt, Travis Clayton, Dan Feeney, Jacob Bayer, Kendrick Green, Mike Edwards, Richard Gouraige, Ryan Van Demark.

Van Demark has been liked by the Bills in recent years but he hasn't had a great preseason. Meanwhile, Grable has been given plenty of surprising opportunities.

Defensive tackle (5)

Roster: Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, T.J. Sanders, Deone Walker, Larry Ogunjobi (suspended), DeWayne Carter.

Cut(s): Zion Logue, Casey Rogers, Marcus Harris.

Between draft pick investment and free agency, the defensive tackle position was sorted long ago.

Defensive end (5)

Roster: Greg Rousseau, Joey Bosa, Landon Jackson, A.J. Epenesa, Michael Hoecht (suspended), Javon Solomon.

Cut(s): Paris Shand, Nelson Caesar.

Linebacker (5)

Roster: Terrel Bernard, Matt Milano, Joe Andreessen, Dorian Williams, Edefuan Ulofoshio.

Cut(s): Keonta Jenkins, Jimmy Ciarlo, Shaq Thompson.

Ulofoshio or Thompson can claim this last spot but Ulofoshio has proven himself as a special teamer. That could give him the edge despite a lackluster summer.

Cornerback (6)

Bills rookie defensive back Maxwell Hairston high-fives fans as he runs onto the field during day five of Buffalo Bills training camp at St. John Fisher University Monday, July 28, 2025 in Pittsford, NY.

Roster: Christian Benford, Maxwell Hairston, Tre'Davious White, Daequan Hardy, Dorian Strong, Ja'Marcus Ingram.

Cut(s): Tre Herndon, Dane Jackson.

Jackson's return has also gone pretty dull. His last outing against the Bears was not great. Hairston is expected to return from his knee injury by opening day.

Safety (5)

Roster: Taylor Rapp, Jordan Hancock, Cole Bishop, Cam Lewis, Darrick Forrest.

Cut(s): Wande Owens.

Forrest hasn't done much this preseason, either. However, with the concerns at safety it would not be surprising for the Bills to want to keep a veteran around. Bishop and Hamlin have been poor.
