It is Nate Pearson’s 29th birthday. On the list of prospect who never turned out to be what we hoped. Pearson is now with the Cubs, or at least their Triple-A team. He has a 2.39 ERA there, which sounds good, but he has walked 21 batters in 37.2 innings (with 46 home runs). Throwing strikes has always been the problem. Batters have a .562 OPS against him, so he’s doing some things well.

He’ll likely be up with the Cubs at some point again this year.

The Jays lineup for today. It is a 12:30 Eastern time starts. No Clement today for the first time in a long time. No Vlad either.

I’ll been waiting for the Pirates lineup, but they haven’t posted it yet. Likely trying to decide if Pham should play (the answer is no).

Yesterday’s Umpire Scorecard (https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1958175515195453543). Not a great job by Nick Mahrley. Heavily leaning towards the Pirates, which is normal. Almost always the team that’s trailing by a lot gets better calls. It is just human nature.
