Game 128: Reds vs. Angels (9:38 PM EDT) – Martinez vs. Kikuchi

The Cincinnati Reds head into game 3 against the Los Angeles Angels looking for a sweep and to extend their win streak to 4 games. Nick Martinez takes the mound looking to bounce back from his tough outing on Friday night against Milwaukee. The Angels will counter with left hander Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi is in his first season in LA after spending time in Seattle, Toronto, and Houston over the first 6 years of his career. He comes into tonight’s game with a 3.52 ERA over 143 innings of work in one of the bets seasons of his career. He touts a 9.4 K/9 against a 3.8 BB/9 in 2025. Kikuchi has made one appearance against the Reds where he allowed a couple of runs over 4.2 innings of work.

In case you missed it earlier today, the Reds placed Tyler Stephenson on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sunday) with a fractured left thumb and called up catcher Will Banfield from Triple-A Louisville. Banfield, a Georgia native, was drafted out of high school by the Miami Marlins in the 2nd round in 2018. He stayed in the Marlins organization until the Reds picked him up last November as a free agent. He is a career .225/.277/.645 in the minor leagues and his first appearance for the Reds will be his Major League debut.

Anyway, throw back a couple shots of espresso and do a few laps around the neighborhood. We’ve got more late night baseball and the Reds are looking for a sweep. Go Reds.
