A bullet went through Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s office in May 2024, The Kansas City Star reported Wednesday. No one was hurt.

Reid was not hit or injured by the gunshot, the Kansas City Police Department said. He was working alone in the room when the bullet came from outside, putting a hole through the window and blinds. It lodged in a wall between his bathroom and the room’s entrance – roughly 15 feet from his desk.

After the incident, the team installed bulletproof glass. Kansas City police have not made any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The bullet that went through Reid’s office was one of three to hit the Chiefs’ facility that day. One hit the third floor and another hit an outside air conditioner, according to the Kansas City Star. Reid works on the second floor.

“Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault,” said Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Jacob Becchina, via the Kansas City Star.

The incident occurred in the offseason after the Chiefs’ second straight Super Bowl title. They wound up returning to the Super Bowl last year hoping to pull off an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl victory – the first in NFL history. However, Kansas City came up short in the big game, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in February.

The Chiefs are now looking to maintain their success under Andy Reid, who has a 273-146-1 record in Kansas City. But Patrick Mahomes said there’s still plenty of room for improvement this year following last year’s run to a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.

“There’s stuff we’ve got to get better at,” Mahomes said during an interview with USA Today’s Jarrett Bell. “Especially myself. There’s plays on the football field that I didn’t make last year, that I’ve made in previous years.

“At the end of the day, I’m going to do whatever it takes to win, whether that’s passing for a lot of yards, not passing for a lot of yards. But I think if I play better, that’s going to make it better for the team. So, I’ve got to be better at executing whenever the shots are there, making those throws. Because that’s going to alleviate pressure on our defense and make them play more free and make the team play more free.”
