Parker Messick latest Florida State baseball player to make it to The Show. Here's how he did

Parker Messick, recalled from Triple-A Columbus, struck out six and walked one in his MLB debut for the Cleveland Guardians

Parker Messick's Major League Baseball debut Aug. 20 couldn't have gone much better.

The left-handed starter threw deep into the game and gave the Cleveland Guardians a chance to win.

"It was a great debut. Great outing no matter if it’s your first, your last, anywhere in between,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told MLB.com.

All that was missing from the former Florida State All-American's stellar performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks was a win.

Messick, 24, allowed a run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings and left with a 2-1 lead.

However, the Diamondbacks rallied and beat Cleveland 3-2 in 10 innings at Chase Field in Arizona.

Florida State pitcher Parker Messick (15) warms up pitching. The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Samford Bulldogs 7-0 on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022.

Messick, recalled from Triple-A Columbus, struck out six and walked one. He used a potent mix of changeups, sliders and four-seam fastballs to keep Arizona off balance.

Messick, a second-round selection of the Guardians following his redshirt sophomore year at FSU in 2022, was touched for a run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Plant City, Florida, native and former ACC Pitcher of the Year threw first-pitch strikes to 22 of his 26 batters faced.

"I felt like I was floating,” Messick told MLB.com.

“I still do. I don’t know when I’ll come down from it. I know it’s my debut, but we’re trying to win. They called me up to try and win, so I tried to just calm myself down and get back into the game and focus on what I need to do to help the team win.”

Messick was 5-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 20 starts for Triple-A Columbus, striking out 119 in 98 2/3 innings.
