On Monday, word surfaced of Campbell's comments on a promising rookie who has become a fan favorite during his time in the Motor City so far.

Campbell's comments were cause for concern as he avoided making a prediction on the rookie's potential return.

"Rookie Edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein has a peck injury and will (be) down for a while, per Dan Campbell," Lions.com reporter Tim Twentymen wrote on X.

"Campbell said he doesn't know if he'll be able to return this season."

Hassanein is a 2025 sixth round pick out of Boise State who has flashed potential and shown a tremendous work ethic during his time with the Lions so far during training camp and preseason.

At 6-foot-2, 267 pounds, he was expected to provide pass rush help along the defensive line after recording 21.5 sacks during his final two seasons with the Broncos in Idaho.

The Lions rookie suffered his injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins and is now listed as questionable.

The Hassanein news came amid comments by running back David Montgomery on an offensive line that has been deemed 'elite.' A former Michigan Wolverines pass rusher was listed as a possible Lions target.

Hassanein's injury will give the Lions rookie time to rest, recuperate, and assimilate the lessons learned during training camp.

Detroit will move on with new players in preparation for Week 1 of the NFL season on September 7 in Green Bay against Matt LaFleur's Packers.
