Hugh Freeze's Latest Comments Raise Concern Among Auburn Fans

Auburn has 3 play callers and quarterbacks they'll play.

When it comes to Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze, this offseason has been quite eventful in all of the wrong ways for him.

In June, the head coach with an 11-14 record on the Plains was revealed to have played 10 rounds of golf, and at the time had already eclipsed 20 rounds of golf. All of this happened while Auburn lost multiple commits.

The third-year head coach has also taken heat for having three people calling plays on offense depending on the situation, and on Monday caugt the attention of fans after he admitted the Tigers may play three quarterbacks in their Week 1 game against Baylor.

Hugh Freeze Facing Backlash for Admitting Three Quarterbacks Could Play Against Baylor

When asked about the quarterback situation, Freeze seemed confident in saying that there's a role for the Tigers' trio.

A response that didn't go over well online.

"Actions best be quieter than words, I don't think Hugh should do anymore interviews, ever," said one fan.

"But, could we also NOT," said another.

"What about one QB per down? That way each gets their own dedicated play caller," joked another.

The Tigers have struggled to get consistent quarterback play as of late, and have brought in three new quarterbacks ahead of 2025.

Auburn's Quarterback Room

  • Jackson Arnold: Oklahoma Transfer
  • Ashton Daniels: Stanford Transfer
  • Deuce Knight: Five-Star Recruit

While Arnold is looking to revive his career after being a five-star recruit at one point himself, Daniels is looking to propel his career to the next level. He started off his career as a wildcat quarterback at Stanford, before being the team's primary quarterback the past two seasons.

Although he is likely wanting to prove he can be a full-time quarterback, Daniels rushed for a team-high 669 yards last season at Stanford, and could find his way onto the field at Auburn thanks to his legs.

Whether or not Freeze is trying to get in the head of Baylor is unclear, but the Tigers do know they'll need all hands on deck when Aug. 29 rolls around.
