There's still time in Detroit to get something done.

Aidan Hutchinson could be the next big name embroiled in heated contract negotiations.

This offseason, it's been about the Cowboys' Micah Parsons and the Bengals' Trey Hendrickson.

Next year, it could be Hutchinson, the Detroit Lions star who became eligible to sign an extension this summer.

Right now, though, Hutchinson is trying not to think about that.

He opened up on the process to Christian Romo of the Detroit Free Press:

“I’ve kind of been pretty hands-off with the process. I think the business side can take away from your love of the game a little bit. And that’s kind of the reality of the NFL. I have a lot of people in my close circle that do deal with that, so my main focus is out here playing football, playing this game I love.”

Hutchinson certainly will be primed for a big payday when his time comes.

Parsons is expected to raise the roof on the market, getting the biggest non-quarterback contract in NFL history.

It's probably fair to expect Hutchinson to come in just a bit below wherever Parsons winds up.

Hutchinson will have to prove this season he can stay healthy after missing more than half of last season. But his importance to the Lions was also evident in his absence, because even with him out that long, Hutchinson still led Detroit in sacks in 2024.

The former Michigan standout is a fan favorite for the Lions, and he should only get better over the next few seasons.

There isn't a rush on this deal yet, but as some of these other situations have shown, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Lions to try and get something done sooner rather than later.
