Ohio State Predicted to Make Big Splash with Nation's No. 3 WR

Ohio State predicted to receive commitment from nation's No. 7 recruit.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have a rich history of producing successful wide receivers at both the college and professional levels. Since 2020, the program has seen six wide receivers taken in the NFL draft, the past five in the first round.

Much of that is due to the Buckeyes being exceptionally good at recruiting the position out of high school, and it's something head coach Ryan Day is trying to continue with the 2028 class.

They've already extended offers to six talented wide receivers, including four-star Brysen Wright, four-star Jett Harrison, four-star Eric McFarland, four-star Deandre Bidden, four-star Braylon Clark and four-star Damarion Mays.

Ohio State Predicted to Land Eric McFarland

They won't be able to get everyone they want, but in an article from Rivals' John Garcia Jr., he predicts McFarland will commit to Ohio State.

"When it comes to the wide receiver position, every recruiter is looking up at [offensive coordinator/wide receiver coach] Brian Hartline and it’s hard to see him striking out on Wright and/or McFarland in the end," Garcia wrote.

McFarland would be a huge addition for the Buckeyes, as Rivals Industry Rankings place him as a four-star recruit, the No. 3 wide receiver, the No. 4 player in Florida and the No. 7 player in the nation.

Last season as a freshman for IMG Academy, McFarland was impressive, hauling in 36 receptions, 574 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ohio State Not Alone in the Battle for McFarland

However, he still has three more years of high school before making his way to college football, and Ohio State is up against several other powerhouses for his commitment.

So far, McFarland has also received offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Alabama Crimson Tide, North Carolina Tar Heels, Oregon Ducks and Tennessee Volunteers.

If the Buckeyes want to come out on top in this battle, a significant amount of time and effort will need to be invested in McFarland's recruiting process.
