Does Houston have a problem?
Rockets fans offer surprising take on Houston's blockbuster Kevin Durant trade originally appeared on The Sporting News
Next season should be an interesting one in Houston, and fans are ready for what might unfold.
This offseason has been a wild one around the NBA, but there might not be any team more intriguing than the Rockets. Just hours before the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers tipped off Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the Rockets agreed to a deal with the Phoenix Suns to acquire Kevin Durant.
One of the game’s all-time greats, Durant should provide the Rockets with some much-needed star power and give Ime Udoka a clear No. 1 option on offense. While the Durant trade looks great on paper, there is always some concern about how it might look on the court.
Rockets fans are excited but reserved about adding KD
In The Athletic’s recent survey of Rockets fans conducted by Kelly Iko, he asked how fans felt about the Durant trade. While 47% of fans responded that they were “extremely excited,” 50.1% of fans responded with “cautiously optimistic.”
While a half-decade ago, adding Durant likely would have resulted in about 90% of fans responding with excitement, his struggles and unfortunate exits in Brooklyn and Phoenix have fans a bit more on edge about adding one of the best scorers the league has ever seen.
Considering Durant’s injury concerns as he has gotten older, having a cautious approach to such a big move is probably smart for the sanity of Houston fans. Still, if all goes well with Durant in Space City, the Rockets could certainly have a shot to hold up their first Larry O’Brien Trophy in over three decades in 2026.
