The Milwaukee Brewers announced Rhys Hoskins news after 35 straight missed games.
The Milwaukee Brewers have been the best team in MLB in the second half. They are 79–45 and have a nine-game lead in the NL Central.
Milwaukee’s depth has been tested during this stretch, notably by the absence of its everyday first baseman, Rhys Hoskins.
The 32-year-old was having a solid season at the plate in his second year with the Brewers before suffering a sprained left thumb and landing on the injured list in early July.
Over 82 games, Hoskins posted a .242 batting average, .767 OPS, 12 home runs and 42 RBIs — numbers reminiscent of his prime production during his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Rhys Hoskins Nears Return
Hoskins has been sidelined since leaving a game against the Miami Marlins on July 5. He has missed a total of 35 games.
On Monday morning, Milwaukee announced Hoskins would begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville.

Andrew Vaughn’s Hot Bat Gives Brewers Tough Decision at First Base
In Hoskins’ absence, Andrew Vaughn has stepped up and been incredible for the Brewers since arriving in a trade from the Chicago White Sox. The former top prospect has posted a .325 batting average, .989 OPS, nine home runs, and 35 RBIs in just 134 plate appearances — seemingly reaching his potential as a player.
With the postseason approaching and rosters expanding in September, the Brewers will likely carry two veteran right-handed first basemen once Hoskins returns from his rehab assignment. The team will then face a decision on who will be the primary first baseman in the playoffs.
It’s worth noting that both players have the ability to play the outfield, but finding playing time for either of them there would be difficult given the Brewers’ depth and talent in the outfield.
