With its season opener against Cal just over a week away, the Oregon State football team has announced its team captains for the 2025 season.

Quarterback Maalik Murphy, running back Anthony Hankerson, wide receiver Trent Walker, outside linebacker Nikko Taylor, and safety Skyler Thomas were all voted by their peers as captains.

For Thomas, this is his second straight season voted as captain. He led the team a year ago with 81 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, an interception, and a team-high nine pass breakups.

This is also Murphy’s second straight season being named captain, as he was one of Duke’s team captains last season in his first year with the Blue Devils. After beginning his career at Texas, Murphy led Duke to a 9-3 record and completed 60% of his throws for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. The 26 touchdowns mark a single-season record at Duke.

Hankerson, Walker, and Taylor are first-time captains in their careers.

Hankerson is coming off a strong 2024 with the Beavers, where he tallied 1,082 yards on 232 carries. His 15 rushing scores are the sixth-most for a single season at Oregon State.

Walker, meanwhile, had a breakout campaign a season ago, tallying 81 passes for 901 yards and two touchdowns. His 81 catches were the seventh-most in Beaver history for a single season.

And Taylor is coming off a season as the team’s best edge rusher, recording 46 tackles with 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, eight quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, and one blocked kick. He led the team in tackles for loss, sacks, and fumbles forced and recovered.
