Chelsea U21s recorded a 5-0 win at Newcastle United to continue their brilliant start to the new Premier League 2 season.
Newcastle recorded the game’s first attempt when Sean Neave headed the ball over the bar, but Chelsea struck first in the 16th minute as a mistake from the back allowed Dujuan Richards to rifle a shot into the bottom corner.Chelsea had the ball in the net again in the 27th minute when Harrison Murray-Campbell reacted to a loose ball from a corner to score, only for it to be ruled for a foul by Jesse Derry.The right winger made amends by scoring the Blues’ second goal on 36 minutes, getting past his marker before running into the penalty area to power a low shot into the net.Shim Mheuka’s effort to extend Chelsea’s lead before halftime was saved by goalkeeper Adam Harrison.Midfielder Leo Cardoso was introduced after the hour mark and nearly made an impact, setting up Derry whose close-range effort was saved by the goalkeeper.Five minutes after the restart, Newcastle’s Trevan Sanusi had a shot flash wide of the post before Derry forced goalkeeper Adam Harrison to make a save.Chelsea extended their lead through the individual brilliance of Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. The winger received a pass from Landon Emenalo, ran into the penalty area with a brilliant solo run and smashed a low shot into the far corner.Some moments later, the visitors scored again as Cardoso brilliantly drove into the box to shoot – Harrison saved his effort, but Shim Mheuka converted the rebound.Murray-Campbell completed the scoring with a brilliant free-kick in the 84th minute following a foul on Reggie Walsh.Calum McFarlane’s side have now scored eight goals in this campaign – the joint-highest in the division. They return to action on Tuesday evening when they face League Two side Shrewsbury Town at The Croud Meadow in the EFL Trophy.
