CaneSport Message Board Mania: Top Bold (and Not-So-Bold) Miami Hurricanes Predictions From the Fans

Today's Message Board Mania focuses on Miami fans' predictions for the coming season ... and our thoughts on those predictions.

CaneSport recently ran our “5 Bold Predictions” for the coming Miami Hurricanes’ season. The background on that is a year ago at this time almost all our bold predictions came true – 10 wins, Cam Ward with over 30 TDs, the Miami offense with over 35 points for the first time since 2002, OJ Frederique as the surprise freshman and PK Andy Borregales breaking the school record for longest field goal. Where we missed was predicting the playoffs and Miami being in the nation’s top five in sacks (the Canes were 18th).

So, all in all, pretty on the mark.

Our predictions this year are that Miami will be top 25 in the nation in scoring defense, will make the playoffs (splitting with Notre Dame and Florida), and we predict 1,000 total yards for Jordan Lyle, a top 10 pass defense and over 30 TDs/under 10 INTs for QB Carson Beck.

But today’s story isn’t about our predictions.

It’s about making fun of your, the fan’s, predictions.

Oops, did I say making fun of them? I meant analyzing them and sharing our thoughts.

Miami-Canes07’s prediction?

“15-0 NC” he writes.

In this case we assume “NC” is shorthand for the narcotics he was using at the time he typed this, mainly because you have to win 16 games even with no ACC title game and a first round bye.

One we somewhat agree with comes from Canes76: “My bold prediction? ACC Champs. Win a game in the playoffs.”

CaneSport very unofficial statistician Jarrett33goes with “Beck 25 TDS, Top 20 scoring defense, 2000 yard backfield, Mesidor 9 sacks, Malachi Toney 600 yds receiving.”

And official CaneSport statistician APB_Caneposts “Bain will hover around the following: 45+ tackles, 20+ tfl, 15+ sack. Beck will throw for: 3,500+ yards, 30+ TD. Receiver room will have (2) players with 800+ yards. Lyle with have 1,000 yds rushing. Defense within the top 25 in scoring defense, top 25 in takeaways also!”

CaneSport stats intern TGCanes1982goes with “1. 10-2, lose to Clemson in ACCCG but still make playoffs. 2. Beck throws for more than 30 touchdowns, team scores 30+ PPG. 3. 1,000 yard rusher this year. 4. We’ll have another freshman all-American this year. 5. Total defense will be top 25.

4EVERCANEisn’t too worried about results, moreso he is interested in things that can later be sold on eBay.

“We will have a major award winner on both sides of the ball,” he writes.

Poobah03, who swears he isn’t Josh Moore’s father, makes one, and only one prediction he calls “almost a lock.”

“Josh Moore – 800 yards receiving,” Mr. Moore says.

Our award for unboldest bold prediction goes to jrbar, who assesses that “The team plays well but kicking game struggles.”

The final word here?

That goes to Schnellys stache, who apparently erroneously thought we were asking about the Miami basketball team.

“Final 4,” he writes.
