Is Travis Hunter playing vs. Miami today? Injury update on Jacksonville Jaguars rookie

Two-way Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter has missed his last four preseason practices. Is Hunter playing today? Here's what we know.

Jacksonville Jaguars two-way rookie Travis Hunter competed in team periods in 15 consecutive preseason practices and one game against the Pittsburgh Steelers before an upper-body injury on Aug. 14 derailed his progress and kept him out of the next game against the New Orleans Saints.

Hunter caught 27 passes on offense in team periods in camp and added two receptions against the Steelers. On defense, he broke up five passes in camp sessions and had no stats against the Steelers. He did cover a received well enough to give the Jags Dawuwane Smoot time to make a sack.

But with Hunter's injury, he has been limited to individual drills, plus stretching and flexibility before each practice.

He competed in 364 plays on both sides of the ball in team periods, 188 on offense and 176 on defense.

Will Travis Hunter play against the Miami Dolphins?

No. Hunter was ruled out by Jaguars coach Liam Coen during a media availability on Aug. 21, along with the rest of the Jaguars starters.

"It was more of like, do we want him now or potentially not in Carolina?" Coen said. "It was more just being smart about the next few weeks, because the ultimate goal is Carolina."

It's almost a certainty that Hunter wouldn't have played against the Dolphins even if he had been healthy.

When will Travis Hunter be next be on the field?

The Jaguars will begin a regular-season practice schedule next week, which means the media will only see Hunter and the rest of the team in flexibility, stretching, and individual drills for around 30 minutes per day. The Jaguars will not have to give a specific injury report until Sept. 3, four days before opening the season against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 7 at Everbank Stadium.
