A final roster projection for the New York Jets after 19-17 preseason finale loss vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 2025 NFL preseason is in the history books for the New York Jets.
The team rounded the exhibition slate out with a 19-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday at MetLife Stadium.
In the coming days, the Jets and every NFL team will trim their rosters to 53 players ahead of the regular season. The deadline to do so is Tuesday.
We could see plenty of surprises and outside additions but let's take an early swing.
Here is Jets Wire's final 53-man roster projection:
Quarterback (2)
Roster: Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor.
Cut(s): Brady Cook, Adrian Martinez.
With head coach Aaron Glenn saying Taylor will be good to go by opening day, the only decision awaiting us is who will be QB3 on either the roster or practice squad.
Running back (4)
Roster: Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu.
Cut(s): Donovan Edwards, Lawrance Toafil.
Davis is dealing with an injury and it remains to be seen what happens with his status which could open up a roster spot. Nwangwu showed enough backfield skill in the preseason finale and he's a special teamer.
Tight end (4)
Roster: Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Andrew Beck, Stone Smartt.
Cut(s): Zach Kuntz, Neal Johnson.
Beck flexes as a fullback to round out the tight ends.
Wide receiver (6)
Roster: Garrett Wilson, Arian Smith, Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson, Brandon Smith, Jamaal Pritchett.
Cut(s): Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley, Dymere Miller.
Allen Lazard (shoulder) wasn't slated to be a long-term injury but could end up on short-term injured reserve to start the year. Corley was a former third-round pick just a year ago, but he's done nothing to take a roster spot from someone like Smith or Pritchett, who can help on special teams.
Offensive line (9)
Roster: John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Josh Myers, Xavier Newman, Olu Fashanu, Armand Membou, Max Mitchell, Chukwuma Okorafor.
Cut(s): Marquis Hayes, Liam Fornael, Leander Wiegand, Carter Warren, Samuel Jackson.
Tippmann likely won the starting center job and the No. 1 unit has been impressive. Warren was a 2023 fourth-round pick but never really stood out this summer leaving Mitchell on the roster.
Defensive line (10)
Roster: Jermaine Johnson II, Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons, Tyler Baron, Braiden McGregor, Quinnen Williams, Harrison Phillips, Byron Cowart, Jay Tufele, Jowon Briggs.
Cut(s): Michael Fletcher, Kingsley Jonathan, Eric Watts, Payton Page, Leonard Taylor III, Derrick Nnadi, Fatorma, Mulbah.
As long as Johnson is good to go, there are not many surprises here following the trades for Phillips and Briggs. Both will help with the Jets' run defense.
Linebacker (5)
Roster: Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood, Jamin Davis, Francisco Mauigoa, Marcelino McCrary-Ball.
Cut(s): Ja'Markis Weston, Zaire Barnes, Jackson Simon.
The depth behind Williams and Sherwood is not great. There is Davis and Mauigoa, a fifth-round rookie, who has not stood out.
Cornerback (6)
Roster: Sauce Gardner, Brandon Stephens, Michael Carter II, Azareye’h Thomas, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Jarrick Bernard-Converse.
Cut(s): Mario Goodrich, Jordan Clark.
The Jets' depth chart is short because of injury to players such as Kris Boyd (shoulder) who is on injured reserve. Regardless, Stiggers and Bernard-Converse made enough plays for roster spots.
Safety (4)
Roster: Andre Cisco, Tony Adams, Malachi Moore, Isaiah Oliver.
Cut(s): Jarius Monroe, Dean Clark, Tanner McCalister.
Clark made strides during the summer but he's a solid practice squad addition. A lot of faith is being placed in Cisco here.
Special teams (3)
Roster: Nick Folk (PK), Austin McNamara (P), Thomas Hennessy (LS).
Cut(s): Harrison Mevis.
