22-year-old infielder, called up just a day earlier, put on a show in his Tampa Bay Rays debut Friday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Carson Williams crushes homer in dream Rays debut vs Cardinals
Williams went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in, including a towering 410-foot two-run homer to straightaway center in the seventh inning. His bat wasn’t the only thing making noise; he also beat out an infield single and reached on an error earlier in the game, helping fuel Tampa Bay’s 10-6 win.
The bomb made him only the fourth player in Rays history to notch multiple hits and a home run in his first big league appearance, joining Wander Franco, René Pinto, and Delmon Young.

Williams was a first-round pick back in 2021 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the slickest defensive prospects in the minors. With Ha-Seong Kim placed on the injured list due to recurring back issues, Tampa Bay wasted no time giving their young shortstop a shot.
“It’s every kid’s dream, and it just got even better,” Williams said after the game, adding how grateful he was to have his family in the stands for the milestone moment.
The two teams will take a rare Saturday off, before finishing the series on Sunday.
