The Longhorns are no stranger to hype from the media in 2025. That doesn’t change when it comes to Kirk Herbstreit’s expectations for the Texas Longhorns. The ESPN College GameDay expert and play by play analyst recently picked his champions for the Power 4 conferences, and Texas was his pick for the SEC.

With the pick in favor of Texas, one has to imagine that Texas either gets an incredibly rare win against Kirby Smart or Texas avenges a late season loss to Georgia in the SEC championship. Heck maybe Texas wins both. Whichever the answer is, Herbstreit is predicting a great season for Texas with a potential bye in the first round of the playoffs.
That wasn’t the only recognition for Texas. Colin Simmons won the preseason Herbie for most disruptive defensive lineman. At this point it’s probably safe to say that when Simmons starts racking up sacks, it won’t be some underdog story. He will be performing with enormous expectations.
