Kentucky football will return to the Commonwealth in one week. To celebrate the occasion, we’re bringing back a KSR tradition, the KSR Football Podcast.
In 2015, the KSR Football Podcast became the first regular podcast on the website. Jared Lorenzen and Freddie Maggard joined me and Drew Franklin every Monday to talk about the Wildcats’ most recent game and look ahead to the next. The analysis wasn’t as nearly as great as the story-telling and shenanigans.
Over 11 years, the panelists have changed. Adam Luckett stepped in for Freddie Maggard. Charles Walker, Austin MacGinnis, and Max Duffy were regulars for multiple seasons. When Max returned to the Land Down Under, it wasn’t easy to find a replacement for the charismatic Ray Guy Award winner. I’m here to tell you that we found the perfect replacement.
Van Hiles will be stepping into the fourth chair for the 2025 edition of the KSR Football Podcast. Hiles played for the Wildcats in the mid-90s. Over three years, the talented defensive back from Baton Rouge picked off eight passes. He holds the distinction as the first KSR Football Podcast host selected in the NFL Draft. He was taken in the fifth round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.
You don’t have to look hard to find former athletes in sports media. What separates Van from the rest is that he does his homework. After every game, he’s watching film and sharing cut-ups of Kentucky football games that thoroughly detail what went wrong, or right, during pivotal moments. Hiles has been talking about his former team for years on The Locker and Drive with Styles, and now he’s sharing that expertise on the KSR Football Podcast.
We’re fired up for the upcoming Kentucky football season, a pivotal one in Mark Stoops’ tenure. Make sure you’re locked in by checking out every episode of the KSR Football Podcast. You can subscribe to download the audio, or watch us streaming live every Monday afternoon.
Let’s have ourselves a football season.
