Skip Bayless is fed up with the perceived disrespect to Shedeur Sanders from the Cleveland Browns. The sports talking head went on a lengthy rant on social media over the weekend in which he argued the only way for Sanders to find success was if he gets out of Cleveland.
Of course, that’s not entirely up to the rookie quarterback. But that didn’t stop Bayless from ranting in his typical fashion anyway.
“I’m outraged and I’m sickened and I’m saddened by how Shedeur Sanders continues to be treated in the National Football League by those sorry ass Browns and sorry ass Kevin Stefanski,” he began.
Bayless argued that Sanders has not gotten a fair chance in Cleveland. The Brown already announced veteran Joe Flacco as the starter for Week 1 and have allowed fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel more preseason reps than Sanders.
Sanders was the third quarterback to play in Saturday’s preseason finale behind both Flacco and Gabriel. Bayless believes that didn’t give him the chance to full show what he was capable of.
“It’s just excruciating to watch what they’re trying to do to Shedeur,” he said. “Again, they’re still trying to teach him a lesson. They sabotaged it. They rigged it against him today putting him in with third and fourth-stringers, fifth-stringers when you’ve got no shot at quarterback. Your best play is you might as well just hand it off and see if you can get three or four yards. Shedeur’s not gonna dump pass it because he knows this is it. This is gonna be his last shot, probably for the whole year as far as the Browns go. How’s he gonna get another shot?”
Sanders finished 3-of-6 passing for 14 yards in Saturday’s win. He also got the opportunity to start in the preseason opener, putting up an impressive 138 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions on 14-of-23 passing.
Sanders also put up massive numbers in college at Colorado, where he led the country in completion percentage this past season. That combined with growing up around a star pedigree as the son of Deion Sanders have Bayless convinced the QB have Bayless convinced Shedeur can be a star too. It just won’t be in Cleveland.
“That team would’ve lit up for Shedeur,” Bayless said. “He’s just got that natural thing. He’s got that ‘it.’ The swagger is legit. It’s not fake. It’s not poser swagger. It’s real. He was raised around superstars. That’s the beauty of Shedeur Sanders. He’s got it in his blood. He’s got it in his genes. It’s just shameful to watch. How does this end? I don’t see how they’re gonna carry four quarterbacks. So I assume they’re gonna try to practice squad Shedeur. I hope they cut him. Here’s my point: Shedeur has to go elsewhere.
“The only way out of this, the only way to free Shedeur from Cleveland is for them to cut him or practice squad him and then somebody out there, some other team says, ‘You know what? We suck at quarterback.’ I don’t know who it’s gonna be. You never know how teams are looking at their situations. …If somebody jumps on Shedeur off Cleveland’s practice squad, that would be the saving grace. That would be where somebody actually wanted him. This was just a publicity stunt by Jimmy Haslem who forced a coaching staff who did not want Shedeur Sanders to try to do something with Shedeur Sanders.”
