This is tough time for Vegas.

The Las Vegas Raiders were nearly through the preseason with their QB depth chart intact. Nearly.

But on Saturday night, Aidan O'Connell fractured his right wrist during the preseason finale against the Cardinals.

"He fractured his wrist -- he's hurt and it's going to be a while," head coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the loss. "That's a big blow for us."

O'Connell played two series Saturday. He was sacked and lost a fumble but played the next drive, going 3-for-4 passing for 36 yards.

That left Cam Miller to play the rest of the way. The rookie went 12-for-24 for 102 yards.

Miller was a collegiate star at North Dakota State. The Raiders chose him in the sixth round of April's NFL Draft.

The Raiders had sat out starting quarterback Geno Smith on Saturday. He'll be the main man when the regular season gets underway.

Vegas acquired Smith this offseason in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran is coming off a season in which he completed 70.4% of his passes.

Miller is likely not ready to be a backup. Multiple reporters have already suggested that the Raiders will be seeking out a new QB2 this week.

Cutdown day is Tuesday, meaning teams have to have their initial 53-man rosters in order by then. That creates possibilities of new players becoming available.

Given the timing, it's safe to expect the Raiders to have a new quarterback in the building by the middle of this week. There's not much time to get someone up to speed and ready to back Smith up in Week 1.
