According to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma have opened discussions with Liverpool regarding Greek international Kostas Tsimikas.

Roma Exploring Loan Option

Tsimikas has slipped down the pecking order this summer, with new signing Milos Kerkez establishing himself as Slot’s long-term project at left-back. Andy Robertson remains under contract until 2026, leaving Tsimikas surplus to requirements.

Di Marzio reported that Roma view Tsimikas as “a good deputy for Angelino.” The same report added, “There have been contacts with the Reds regarding the loan arrival of the Greek full-back: the operation is not easy, but Roma are trying and at the beginning of next week we will have a clearer understanding of its feasibility.”

Negotiations are said to be ongoing, though the complexity of the deal means no agreement has yet been reached.

Loan or Permanent Move?

Earlier this summer, Liverpool’s preference was a permanent sale. However, with limited time left before the window closes, the club could now settle for a loan to ensure Tsimikas secures regular minutes.

Di Marzio highlighted that “more discussions are scheduled for the beginning of next week to understand whether the move is possible.” That timeframe is crucial given the looming deadline and Roma’s need to strengthen under their own ambitions.

From Liverpool’s perspective, sanctioning a loan makes sense if no permanent offers materialise. Tsimikas would gain playing time in Serie A, while Liverpool preserve the option of recalling him next summer should Robertson’s contract situation change.

The 29-year-old has been a dependable squad option since his arrival in 2020, contributing important performances during periods when Robertson was unavailable. Yet with Kerkez now firmly in the frame, his pathway to first-team minutes looks increasingly blocked.
