Atalanta director Tony D’Amico says La Dea are ‘disappointed’ by Ademola Lookman and will ‘make assessments’ when the summer transfer window comes to an end.

Atalanta provided a brief update on the Lookman situation before their Serie A opener against Pisa.

“Lookman is not training with the group, and we are experiencing more and more situations like this,” D’Amico told DAZN via TMW.

“We are sorry for everyone, but right now this is the situation. We’ll make assessments at the end of the transfer window. As of today, there’s disappointment.”

This means Atalanta will either decide to reintroduce the player to the team in September or leave him out of the squad for longer.

Lookman firmly pushed to join Atalanta’s domestic rivals Inter in early August, but the Milan-based club failed to match La Dea’s €50m asking price.

Lookman even cancelled pictures with an Atalanta jersey from his Instagram profile, but suddenly returned to the club’s training centre for pre-season preparations last week.

Lookman trains separately at Atalanta

The Nigerian star has now been frozen out of the first team and will train separately at least for another week, missing the Serie A Round 2 as well.

The 27-year-old is contracted with Atalanta until June 2027.

He has scored 52 goals in 118 appearances with La Dea, winning the African Ballon d’Or Award in 2024, months after inspiring La Dea’s Europa League victory by scoring a hat-trick in the Final against Bayer Leverkusen.
