The Cleveland Browns released quarterback Tyler Huntley, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. With the move, the Browns will keep Shedeur Sanders and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel on the roster.

“Browns are releasing quarterback Tyler Huntley, per source,” Schefter wrote on Twitter/X. “Cleveland has been planning to keep its other four QBs — Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders — on its 53-man roster.”

Much was made of the Browns’ QB room, which included two drafted rookies in Sanders and Gabriel this year. Flacco will be the starter while Pickett is presumably the backup when healthy. However, that remains to be seen and with Gabriel getting into the preseason finale ahead of Sanders, perhaps the former Oregon QB is ahead.

Huntley has spent time with the Baltimore Ravens (2020-23 and ’24), Browns (2024 and ’25) and Miami Dolphins (2024) throughout his career. He went undrafted in 2020 out of Utah.

Shedeur Sanders remains on Cleveland Browns’ roster after Tyler Huntley release

Sanders, who starred at Colorado over the last two years, had a notable draft slide to the fifth round back in the spring. During his appearances in the preseason, he’s shown flashes of very solid play, including his debut against the Carolina Panthers. However, he struggled against the Los Angeles Chargers Saturday.

Sanders was actually straight up asked if he deserved to be on Cleveland’s roster come September. He was open and honest with his answer.

“Obviously. I think overall as a player I’ve put in the work and everything I do I try to do it the best and that’s all I ask for,” Sanders said. “I feel like everybody feels like they should be on the team and if you ask anybody if they feel like they belong they belong in their own eyes. So I feel like I do, but I’m my own player. I think about myself in a high regard.”

Over the course of two preseason games, Sanders completed 17/29 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He was however sacked seven times.
