San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King was only able to make one start after coming back from the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder and long thoracic nerve issue in his throwing arm.
After pitching in just one game after returning on Aug. 8, King discovered knee inflammation in his left knee. The Padres took safety measures into their own hands and placed the 30-year-old on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 14).
"I probably just pushed it a little too hard in the ramp-up," King told MLB.com's Threo DeRosa and AJ Cassavell.
Michael King pitches in a three-inning simulated game on Saturday
As King has continued to rehab the knee injury, it's been announced that he pitched in a 44-pitch, three-inning simulated game on Saturday while the Padres played in their three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Although the $7.75 million pitcher is eligible to return from the injured list on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Padres don't expect him to be ready by then, and he will likely need more time before rejoining the rotation, according to RotoWire.

In the 11 games King has started this season, he's been productive for the Padres. Through 57.2 innings, he has a 4-2 record, 2.81 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts.
San Diego plans to have King rejoin a pitching rotation that includes Nick Pivetta, Dylan Cease, and Yu Darvish while they eye a potential run for the World Series this October.
