Manchester United returned with a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday at the Craven Cottage on matchday 2 of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils took the lead in the 58th minute when there was a pinball situation from a corner and unfortunately Rodrigo Muniz turned it into his own net.

In the build to the own goal, Lenny Yoro got the deflected header from a Bryan Mbuemo corner which was turned in by Muniz.

However, the hosts were firm in their protest as they felt Yoro had pushed Fulham defender Calvin Bassey to the ground before winning the header.

Interestingly, Bassey had earlier made a grave mistake in the first half by handing United a penalty but surprisingly, Bruno Fernandes skied it, keeping the scores level at halftime.

Second half was intense and with United securing the goal, it felt like Ruben Amorim will secure his first win of the new campaign until two former Arsenal players Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith-Rowe combined with the latter scoring the equalizer off the bench.

What did Calvin Bassey say about Man United's controversial goal?

Apart from giving away a penalty, Bassey had a decent outing against the Red Devils as he genuinely felt the United goal should have chalked off by VAR.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the Fulham star said: "It is enough for me to not be able to win the ball and it is an advantage to him. It should have been disallowed. When the referee looks back at I think they will be disappointed. I cannot say too much, otherwise I will get a fine!

"It is a foul. When you go up to a jump, any little touch can put you off. He wasn't trying to speak to me - he was trying to speak to my captain. What do you want me to do? Jump on the floor. It is enough for me to not be able to win the ball."

With this draw, Amorim has now managed only seven wins from 29 Premier League games in charge as Man United boss, suffering 15 defeats and registering seven draws.

Despite spending a lot of money to improve their attack, the Red Devils have had a slow start to their 2025/26 campaign with an opening defeat against Arsenal at home followed by a stalemate against Fulham.

They will now face Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, August 27 while returning to Premier League action on August 30 when they will host Burnley at Old Trafford.
