Yann Sommer feels that Cristian Chivu is a “complete coach” who has brought “energy and mentality” to Inter Milan.
The Swiss international gave his thoughts on the new coach in the official matchday programme for today’s Serie A opening day clash with Torino.
Inter Milan turned to Cristian Chivu this summer after Simone Inzaghi departed for Al-Hilal.
In some ways, the 44-year-old was a surprising name. He is still a coach with extremely limited experience in the senior game.
However, on the other hand, Chivu has been a logical choice in terms of his connection with Inter.
The Romanian spent six years as a Nerazzurri player. He also coached at several youth team levels for Inter.
Inter did not only appoint Chivu based on loyalty or nostalgia, though.
The 44-year-old did prove his coaching mettle last season at Parma. He took over the Gialloblu in the midst of a relegation dogfight, and guided them fairly convincingly to safety.

Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer gave his thoughts on Chivu. He called the Romanian “a complete coach.”
“You can see it in how he interacts with us on the pitch. And how he manages situations.”
Sommer called Chivu “very calm, but also very attentive.”
“He’s given us great mentality and energy,” the 36-year-old added.
Meanwhile, Sommer said that as a keeper “I’ve always paid particular attention to my footwork.”
“For me, that’s a fundamental component.”
“Since I was playing with youth teams, I’ve worked hard to improve in that area,” Sommer said. “And I’ve been lucky to have coaches who’ve valued that ability from me.”
