Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze addresses his team's health ahead of the Tigers' season-opener against Baylor.
Auburn plays football this week, opening its season against Baylor.
Hugh Freeze anticipates all of his players will be available for the Friday night game.
“I think everybody’s at a point that’s going to be able to play that hadn’t already been ruled out previously,” Freeze said. “We’re pleased and thankful for that.”
Singleton trending to play
Over the last couple of weeks, Auburn wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. dealt with a deep thigh bruise that limited him in practice. Freeze expects the Georgia Tech transfer to be healthy by Friday.
“He looked good yesterday,” Freeze said. “I think he’s close to being 100%. We’ll continue to protect him a little bit and get him some conditioning. He’ll be ready to give it a go, Lord willing, given that nothing else happens this week.”
Friday assessment for McPherson
Auburn kicker Alex McPherson is recovering from a serious illness that sidelined him for most of last season. While McPherson was an active participant this fall camp, Auburn remains cautious of his condition.
“That will be a discussion that Alex and I have on Friday,” Freeze said. “If he feels like he’s able to participate, the next question will be, ‘Alright let’s be real – how are you feeling on distance?’ And it may be pregame before we know that. The answer is yes, we stand ready to use other kickers.”
Should McPherson be unable to go, Freeze discussed what the plan is at the position.
“I think Towns (McGough) has had a solid camp as has (Connor) Gibbs,” Freeze said. “It’s really close between those two as far as what they graded out accuracy wise. Towns would probably get the first opportunity there. We believe in all three of those guys. Obviously, Alex is super talented and accurate, it’s just a matter of what he feels like he’s able to do, and then we’ll go from there with Towns and Gibbs.”
