Rutgers Football fans who subscribe to YouTube TV could be out of luck this upcoming Thursday when the Scarlet Knights kick off the season against the Ohio Bobcats.

With just days until the start of the 2025 college football season, Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal has reported that Fox and Google (which owns YouTube TV) are at “an impasse” regarding renewal of their carriage agreement and the current deal expires will expire on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00pm ET.

YouTube released the following statement on Monday afternoon.

“Our current agreement with Fox is approaching its renewal date, and we are in active and ongoing negotiations to continue carrying their content,” YouTube said. “We want to be transparent about these discussions: if we are unable to reach a new agreement by 5:00 PM ET on August 27, 2025, Fox channels including Fox Sports, Business, and News would become unavailable on YouTube TV.”

Among the channels that fans are at the risk of losing include the Big Ten Network, which is set to air Thursday night’s season opener and FS1, which will televise the Rutgers / Washington game on October 10th later this year.

There’s still a possibility that a deal could still be reached after the deadline, but the Scarlet Knights and other Big Ten programs could become collateral damage in the dispute, since several teams are set to kickoff their seasons starting on Thursday. The Ohio and Rutgers matchup will still have the regional broadcasts, but both Fox and Google might be willing to lose out on the Thursday games, so that way they could use the Friday and Saturday’s matchups as leverage.

Two matchups in particular that will likely carry some weight in discussions are the Auburn and Baylor game on Friday night and the clash of top three programs in Ohio State and Texas on Saturday afternoon.
