The great Venus WIlliams took to the US Open court to play Karolina Muchova 28 years after her first match in the tourney in 1997.
Venus Williams has had an incredible career. Part of the run that captured the eyes of sports fans everywhere began in 1997 when she gained the US Open finals as an unseeded 17-year-old. On Monday, as a a 45-year-old, she played against Karolina Muchova in a first-round match. Williams, who won the US Open in 2000 and '01, lost in that 1997 final to Martina Hingis. She stretched the 11th-seeded Muchova to three sets in 2025 before falling. For perspective, when Williams played in the 1997 US Open, her Czech opponent was 1-year-old.
