Of course Pat gets this guy.
Chiefs keep surprise WR with 4.28 40-yard dash speed on roster for Patrick Mahomes originally appeared on The Sporting News
The rest of the NFL let Patrick Mahomes get a former high draft pick wide receiver who runs a 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds.
The Kansas City Chiefs must be chuckling about their good fortune.
They chose Tuesday to keep Tyquan Thornton on their 53-man roster, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
It was the NFL's roster cutdown day, but Thornton was spared. He'll have a role to play in Kansas City.
"Thornton, who has 4.28 speed, spent last year on the practice squad, impressed in camp and preseason, and is now poised to have a role in the offense with Patrick Mahomes," Schultz wrote on X.

Thornton was a second-round pick of the Patriots in 2022, not really that long ago.
In his career, he has 39 catches for 385 yards.
Mahomes has spoken openly this offseason about wanting to throw deep more in 2025.
Now, he's got another player to whom he can chuck it long.

Xavier Worthy is already one threat defenses have to worry about. If he and Thornton line up on opposite sides of the formation, it'll force safeties to make some difficult choices.
And then if they take the top off, the likes of Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice can go to work underneath.
It does sometimes feel like the rich get richer. Thornton isn't proven yet, not really. He could still be a bust. But he's the kind of guy teams like the Chiefs end up with that only later, opposing fanbases wonder, "How'd they get him, too?"
