The Golden State Warriors haven’t done much this offseason, but they might have something waiting for them next summer.

This offseason certainly hasn’t gone to plan for Golden State. After falling in the second round to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors haven’t been able to get much done in the months since, with Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted free agency putting things on hold.

While there are some veterans expected to sign in Golden State once everything is cleared up, next summer could offer it a better chance to make something happen. In particular, 2026 could offer the Warriors the perfect opportunity to find Kuminga’s replacement.

A perfect Kuminga replacement?

In a recent article from FanSided’s G.C. Bellchamber, he proposed that the Warriors could target P.J. Washington next summer. With Washington entering the final year of his contract with the Mavericks, he could be one of the most intriguing free agents next summer, assuming Dallas doesn’t extend him.

Washington’s fit in Golden State makes perfect sense. With the Warriors loving to play small, Washington could play some small-ball five and can play either forward spot without any issues.

With his versatility as a defender, Washington’s shooting ability could give the Warriors a perfect plug-and-play guy, which has been one of their holes in recent years. Considering Kuminga wants to have the ball in his hands as much as possible, replacing him with a guy like Washington, who can operate well without needing the ball, could be critical.

Whether Washington becomes available on the open market or Dallas extends him and puts him on the trade block, Golden State should certainly be among the first suitors for the forward.
