These selections didn't quite work out.

The Las Vegas Raiders took two similar players in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

There names were Cam Miller and Tommy Mellott, and both were star quarterbacks at the FCS level (formerly Division I-AA).

On Tuesday, though, the Raiders waived both players, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

It seems likely that if they clear waivers, they'll end up on the Las Vegas practice squad, but it also doesn't seem a given that both clear waivers.

Miller was a standout QB at North Dakota State. He was QB2 on the depth chart following Aidan O'Connell's injury, but then the Raiders traded for veteran Kenny Pickett to back up Geno Smith, and that made Miller more expendable.

Mellott played quarterback at Montana State, but that wasn't his assumed spot in the NFL. Instead, he was trying to convert to wide receiver.

The Raiders, ahead of a season of possible contention with Smith and Pete Carroll at the helm, clearly felt their 53-man roster spots were better spent on more experienced, versatile players.

It's a bit surprising to see both these cuts, though. Miller and Mellott weren't undrafted free agents. The Raiders used two picks in the same round to get them.

Four months later, almost exactly to the day of the sixth round, the Raiders have put both at risk of being claimed by other teams.

It's a necessity at this point to expose some talent to other programs, because some rosters have too much of it to keep it all safe.

It still feels like a poor outcome for the pair of picks to have them both potentially on the outs before they even really get started.
