Tuesday afternoon, Taylor Swift shared the Instagram post heard ’round the world. She announced her engagement to Travis Kelce – and the world reacted accordingly.
Swifties and football fans alike celebrated the announcement, which came as the couple prepares to celebrate its two-year anniversary. At Tennessee, a biochemistry class was getting ready to take its midterm exam when the news broke.
That led the professor to make a decision. He canceled class for the day so he and his student could fully comprehend Swift and Kelce’s engagement.
“[You are supposed to] have a biochem midterm today, but Taylor and Travis just got engaged,” the professor said. “Due to this information, I can’t focus, you all can’t focus. Class is canceled. Get out of here. We’ve got to go. We need time to process this information.”
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement nearly two weeks after the pop star appeared on New Heights for an episode that set a Guinness World Record. It brought in the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube with 1.3 million viewers.
The couple started dating in 2023 after Kelce infamously went on his New Heights podcast lamenting the fact he didn’t meet Swift at a concert. He then got a Super Bowl ring that season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, she has a ring of her own.
It turns out, Kelce proposed to Swift around the time she appeared on his podcast alongside his brother, Jason. She announced her album The Life of a Showgirl, which will release in October, in a rare interview with the two brothers.
Kelce’s father Ed said Travis’ proposal came about two weeks before Taylor Swift shared the news via Instagram on Tuesday. He recapped the events of the day – including the fact he was at Philadelphia Eagles practice when he got the FaceTime call – during an interview with News 5 Cleveland.
“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed Kelce said. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”
Swift’s announcement came less than two weeks before Kelce and the Chiefs kick off the 2025 season. She will maintain her regular presence – while sporting a new piece of jewelry on her left hand, of course.
