Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson are back in the news again, this time for business reasons. According to Darren Rovell of Cllct, a company owned by the North Carolina football coach and managed by his girlfriend have filed to trademark the term “Gold Digger” to use on various items.
“A company owned by North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick and managed by his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, has filed to trademark the term ‘Gold Digger,’ with the intention to use the mark on jewelry and key chains,” Rovell reported.
“Since at least June 2024, Belichick, 73, has been dating Hudson, a 24-year-old former cheerleader, who has been accused by some as being a ‘gold digger,’ a term that refers to someone who enters into a relationship mainly for financial reasons. Now, it seems, Belichick and Hudson want to capitalize on the criticism.”
Rovell noted that the filing was first reported by trademark attorney Josh Gerben. It’s far from the only trademark filing that Belichick’s TCE Rights Management LLC has made in recent days, as well.
Under Hudson’s direction, they filed 17 trademark applications earlier in 2025. Per Rovell, they included “Chapel Bill,” “Belestrator,” “Trail of Salty Tears,” “No Days Off” and “The Belichick Way,” among others.
You can’t blame Belichick and Hudson for trying to make some dough off some criticism. It’s a shrewd business move, and one we’ve seen before in the world of sports, turning a negative into a positive.
In a similar fashion, WNBA star Angel Reese filed a trademark for the phrase “Mebounds” — a term social media accounts have used to threw shade at the Chicago Sky forward, claiming that her rebounding numbers are inflated due to the number of second chances she gets off her own misses.
She lauded the idea via a TikTok post, and then made it official afterwards: “Whoever came up with the ‘mebounds’ thing, y’all ate that up,” she said. “Because rebounds, mebounds, keybounds, crebounds, tebounds — anything that comes off that board, it’s mine.
“And a brand? That’s six figures right there. The trolling, I love when y’all do it because the ideas be good.”
Kudos to Reese, Belichick and Hudson for turning a jab into something they can make some coin off of. That’s certainly the best way to handle it, as they’ve continually found bright spots in others’ trolling throughout their respective careers.
