Micah Parsons’ contract standoff with the Dallas Cowboys — and his trade request — remains unresolved with just over a week until the 2025 NFL season kicks off. Among the teams closely monitoring the situation is Green Bay, where Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is keeping a watchful eye.

The Packers are widely viewed as one of the most intriguing potential landing spots for Parsons, and many around the league believe they could make a serious push if the star defender becomes available. Speaking on Wednesday, Gutekunst addressed the matter carefully, leaving the door open for a possible move.

“Any opportunity that’s out there that we think could help the Packers, we’ll take a long hard look at,” Gutekunst stated, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. While he didn’t directly name Parsons, it’s not hard to use context clues.

Many Packers fans would sign up immediately to bring Parsons to Green Bay. Earlier on Wednesday, Schneidman joined The Pat McAfee Show to share insight into the situation. Despite interest, Jerry Jones might not be so willing to ship his star player to another franchise.

“Yeah, I think right now, to my knowledge, Jerry’s not even listening to trade offers,” Schneidman stated. “So I’m not sure an actual trade offer can even be made unless he picks up the phone. The Packers may have an outline of what they would offer, but if Jerry Jones isn’t entertaining legitimate trade talks, then technically there’s nothing on the table. It’s semantics.

But if he does entertain it, from what I’ve heard, the Packers will be interested and they’ll be in the mix. Which, look — that’s information, but it’s not really a surprise. If you think back to 2018 — the Packers aren’t normally in the mix on these big-name trades. You don’t often see them making moves around the trade deadline. But remember, the Packers actually finished second to the Bears for Khalil Mack in 2018, and they were barely outbid.

“Brian Gutekunst, a couple times in his career — Mack being the biggest instance — has been willing to offer a first-round pick for a veteran player. In some cases, it just hasn’t panned out because other teams outbid them. So this feels kind of eerily similar: it’s right before the season, like the Mack trade was, and it’s for an edge rusher in his prime. A move like that could really take the Packers to the next level.”

Alas, Schneidman cautioned that while Packers fans should temper their expectations, the door isn’t fully shut. If a deal does happen, he believes the price will be steep — but possibly worth it for a player of Parsons’ caliber. We’ll see if it anything comes together over the next couple of days.
