Bishop Canevin signal caller Brady Wagner was facing a 2025 high school football season spent on the sidelines after the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) determined in April that he was ineligible to play. That changed Tuesday, according to a a report by TribHSSN, after a federal judge granted Wagner a temporary restraining order against the PIAA.

Wagner will be able to play in at least the next two games for the Crusaders.

“Brady is going to be at practice with the optimism of being a full participant in Saturday’s game,” Wagner’s attorney Steve Toprani said via the report. “We still have to talk with the coaches to make sure everybody’s comfort level is there, but I fully expect to see him under center Saturday spinning the football. That’s exciting.”

Wagner transferred from Mt. Lebanon to Bishop Canevin over the offseason , competing for the starting quarterback position for the Crusaders after seeing minimal time under center for the Blue Devils in 2024.

Back on July 30, Wagner was ruled ineligible by the WPIAL and PIAA, with the quarterback reacting to the ruling on social media:

Sad in this generation how a 60 year old man can take away a kids dream without punishment. Then he tells players from Mount Lebanon he was only contesting it so that I would come back to Mount Lebanon to play for him.

The PIAA had determined back in late July that Wagner’s move was “motivated in some material way by an athletic purpose.”

“The WPIAL and PIAA … disregarded the compelling and uncontroverted evidence that the Wagner family transferred their son, Brady, to a more suited school setting out of compelling personal safety reasons,” the Wagners’ lawsuit stated via the TribHSSN report, “and instead found a transfer motivated by an athletic intent upon rumor, conjecture and inadmissible hearsay.”

Bishop Canevin will face Seton LaSalle on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
