ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed a potential timeline for a Micah Parsons trade, discussing the interest level from possible trade partners.
As the Micah Parsons saga carries on, there are some new developments. First, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys have changed their tune and are willing to entertain trade offers.
That news was immediately followed by more from Schefter, who made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to expound on the breaking news. Basically, there’s still a long way to go.
“It’s complicated because what would have to happen here is that another team would have to present a contract compelling enough to Micah to make him want to take it, at which point that team then would have to go to Dallas to work out compensation,” Schefter said. “And I don’t think they’re at that level right now. They’re just not there.”
Until terms can be agreed to by a new team, Micah Parsons isn’t likely to head anywhere else. And until terms get locked in, other teams don’t necessarily know what they have to work with in terms of a trade.
So it’s a two-fold process. And given that Dallas is only just now reportedly willing to entertain trade offers, it might take some time.
“I don’t think the conversations with other teams and Micah and his agent are there yet,” Schefter said. “And so it’s complicated, like I said, there’s a lot of layers that have to happen. There’s a certain order that has to be followed here.”
Micah Parsons is one of the most feared defenders in the league. And the reason there’s so much drama around his signing is that he can impact the game in a way few others can.
Super Bowl contenders are often built around pieces like Parsons. Could one of them finally take a stab and get involved?
“Here’s the bottom line, though, Pat, and the reason the story’s out there,” Schefter said. “The Cowboys have heard from multiple suitors. There are multiple teams, multiple, that are interested in trying to work out a trade for Micah Parsons. And the Cowboys, at the very least, appear like they’re willing to listen.
As far as a timeline for a Micah Parsons trade or a signing, Schefter laid out his best guess. Things might begin to move in a hurry.
“It certainly sounds like they want to get this resolved in the next few days,” Schefter said of the Cowboys. “They practice tomorrow for the first time for Thursday night’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously unless there’s a new deal for Micah, it’s hard to imagine that he’s going to be playing in that game on Thursday night.”
