The news that Dave Portnoy will join FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff as part of a deal with the Barstool Sports founder has been met with mixed reactions. Even Urban Meyer isn’t quite sure what to expect.

The former Ohio State coach didn’t seem to know much about Portnoy, who’s a popular online presence. He explained, speaking to Stefan Krajisnik on Thursday.

“I’m waiting to see, man. I met him one time,” Meyer said. “He came by, and I just don’t follow much, I’m not a social media person. And so my daughter is so excited about it because she said it’s going to really explode. And all the sudden I see all of the chaos, so I’m just going to go do my job.”

Urban Meyer wasn’t quite done there. The chaos, of course, has been everywhere.

Portnoy has reportedly been banned from Ohio State, which will take on Texas in one of the most anticipated season openers in recent memory. That alone has caused a huge uproar.

However, it might have been a different concern that caught Urban Meyer’s attention after learning about Portnoy. As only he can, Meyer deadpanned at the end of his answer about the Barstool boss.

“I guess I’ve got to hear about the Wolverines all the time from him, but we were 7-0, so we’re all right,” Meyer said with a wry grin. Bang.

Portnoy is a hugely vocal supporter of Michigan. While Portnoy is still slated to appear on Big Noon Kickoff earlier in the day, when the likes of Rob Stone and Urban Meyer get inside the building as the atmosphere builds, Portnoy cannot follow them in.

So why the affinity for Michigan from Portnoy? He attended the university and has remained incredibly loyal. Tweets about the rivalry are common from Portnoy, especially as Michigan currently owns a four-game winning streak against Ohio State. But Urban Meyer will likely have the last laugh on Big Noon Kickoff, courtesy of his unblemished record in the rivalry game as a head coach.

And he may just remind Portnoy of that fact a time or two. Hey, all’s fair in a rivalry, right?
