Today was another step in the ongoing NASCAR lawsuit. Denny Hamlin came out of the courtroom feeling a little silly. At least, it appears that way after the tweet he put out almost as soon as he got out of the courthouse doors today.

Judge Kenneth Bell heard oral arguments and considered evidence and documents regarding the latest injunction request from 23XI and Front Row. NASCAR, of course, does not want that to be granted.

Denny Hamlin, a co-owner of 23XI Racing, was right there as Jeffrey Kessler and Michael Jordan walked out of the courthouse. Then, he had a little statement/joke on his Twitter page.

“My lawyers said don’t tweet,” Hamlin wrote. “So this is me not doing that. Hope everyone had a great day!”

A bit of a Lynchian phrasing from Denny Hamlin. Marshawn, not David, that is. A real “I’m just here so I don’t get fined” kind of message.

According to reports from inside the courtroom, things did get heated. Documents were presented today in court that included private messages between NASCAR execs, and also communications among 23XI-FRM execs and owners.

Things got so intense that Judge Bell warned both sides. He doesn’t want to see them “sparring” like they did today the next time they come into his courtroom. Judge Bell also continues to try to persuade both sides from going to trial. He insists a settlement would be best for all parties involved.

Denny Hamlin stands with Michael Jordan after hearing

Following the hearing, Denny Hamlin walked out with Michael Jordan and Jeffrey Kessler, as well as others. The group spoke to the media briefly, but did not answer questions. MJ did answer one before his counsel ended the short media session.

“Delighted that we got our day in court today before Judge (Kenneth) Bell,” Kessler said. “I think the documents, NASCAR’s own documents, speak for themselves. I think you finally got to see them. You can see what this case is about. I think NASCAR’s arguments against those documents speak for themselves as well.

“But we are very, very happy to have had this opportunity. We look forward to Judge Bell ruling on this motion next week.”

Michael Jordan chimed in. Denny Hamlin remained silent during this time.

“Look, I’ve been a fan of the game for a long period of time,” Jordan said. “And when we first started this whole process, I’ve always said that I want to fight for the betterment of the sport. Even though they try to point out that we made some money or we had a successful business, that’s not the point.

“The point is is that the sport itself needs to continually change for the better. For the fans, as well as for the teams. As well as for NASCAR, too, if they understand that.

“I feel like we made a good statement today about that. Look, I look forward to going down with fire. If I have to fight this to the end, for the betterment of the sport, I will do that.”
