The Los Angeles Chargers have reunited with offensive lineman Foster Sarell.
Chargers bring back former offensive lineman, release veteran from practice squad originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Los Angeles Chargers are throwing things at the wall and hoping something sticks when it comes to the offensive line heading into the 2025 season.
The loss of Rashawn Slater is one that this team seems to have been scrambling ever since news of his season-ending injury came out. Throw in the fact that Mekhi Becton was not healthy during the preseason and things are not on the up and up with Jim Harbaugh's bunch.
The Chargers curiously kept just eight offensive linemen on the 53-man roster before making a trade for Austin Deculus rather than keeping basically any reserve linemen they had in camp beyond Jamaree Salyer and Andre James. They added several of those players to the practice squad, but are already tinkering with those.
On Thursday, the team signed Foster Sarell, who began his career in L.A., to the practice squad. David Sharpe was released in a corresponding move.
Undrafted out of Stanford in 2021, Sarell played in 35 games for the Chargers, making three starts. He signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders this spring but failed to make their 53-man roster. With problems piling up and looking for answers, the Chargers turned to a familiar face.
With only eight offensive linemen on the active roster, the Chargers will likely have several gameday elevations from the practice squad during the season, just to make sure there is enough depth.

Once considered the strength of this Chargers team, the offensive line is starting to look like a liability. The health of Becton and the play of Trey Pipkins (Slater's replacement) will be huge keys for this season.
