Here's who highlighted the opening week of Boone County high school football

Boone County high school football kicked off the 2025 season on Friday night. Here's the top performers from the four teams that came away victorious.

Boone County high school football is back, meaning spectators were able to see plenty of talent take the field on Friday.

Within week 1, four Boone County teams came away victorious as Centralia, Harrisburg, Hickman, and Tolton all started their 2025 campaigns with a 1-0 record.

In each of the four games, one or two players made their presence known. This week's top performers include two dual-threat quarterbacks, a pair of running backs, a tight end, and one player who impacted the game in all three phases.

Many more players will make their impacts as this season progresses, but here's who highlighted week 1.

Bredun Bursey, and Ra’jon Rayner, Hickman

Hickman's Ra'jon Rayner just gets by Jeff City's Tucker Pearson (34)

Bursey burst onto the scene last year, and the momentum has carried over into the start of the 2025 season. The junior quarterback led Hickman to its first week 1 and largest margin of victory since 2019. In Hickman’s 48-14 victory over Marquette, he found the end zone three times through the air. The first came on a 30-yard strike to tight end Kason Conyers. He connected with Ethan Gaines on a 50-yard screen pass for a score, while firing his third touchdown to senior wide receiver Alijah Bussey to cap off an impressive performance.

Hickman also scored three times via its rushing attack. Rayner, a junior, dazzled the crowd with a 60-yard score, extending the Kewpies lead to 35-14. Around three minutes of game time later, he found the end zone again, this time from 10 yards out.

Dominik Abadi and William Bramon, Tolton

Like Bursey, Abadi, in a small sample size of one week, built off the success of 2024. In a 30-7 win over Forsyth, he found the end zone with his legs twice. He also connected on two long touchdown passes to Kaden Schremmer and William Bramon for 19 and 42 yards. Bramon impacted all three phases of the game, collecting two interceptions and also connecting on a late 30-yard field goal for the Trailblazers' final points on Friday night.

Rex Bryson, Centralia

Earlier this summer, Centralia head coach Tyler Forsee told the Columbia Daily Tribune that Rex Bryson is the toughest kid he’s had the pleasure of coaching. Bryson entered this year after coming off an injury from last season. The leader and now four-year starter helped Centralia to a 26-14 victory over Mexico. He scored twice on the ground, and while the Panthers are a run-first offense, Bryson threw a 32-yard strike to Luke Waltermate.

Caleb Sager and Rylee Robinson, Harrisburg

Harrisburg is going to rely on both Sager and Robinson a lot in 2025. They both came through in the Bulldogs 24-16 victory over South Shelby on the road. Robinson scored from 13 yards out in the third quarter to give Harrisburg the lead for good in the third quarter. Later in the stanza, Nichols found the end zone from a yard out, extending the lead to 24-8.
