Let’s be honest, there’s not a lot to be learned from a game like this.

Your team scores on its first six possessions, and the outcome was obvious way before that. Frankly, before the opening kickoff, but they do have to play the game.

So, yeah, Louisville battered Eastern Kentucky, 51-17.

No significant injuries.

Well and good.

The Good:

We learned that Isaac Brown is a great running back. OK, we knew that already. His 68 yard TD scamper was boffo. His 31 yard strike plenty damn nifty too.

126 yards on 6 totes. 21 ypc. It’ll do in a pinch.*

*Whoever came up with the cash to keep him enrolled on the Belknap Campus, bless you.

The first team defense was impressive, despite the underwhelming opposition. They were on the field as best as I can tell only in the opening half.

EKU was held to 0 1st downs in the opening quarter, just two before the break. 23 yards rushing on 20 carries. 21 yards passing. Four sacks, six TFLs for the game.

33 different Cardinals registered a tackle. Jordan Guerad led with six. Clev Lubin had four. A handful of other Cardinals had three each.

Against the Cards’ top shelf dudes, it was no contest.

Coach Jeff Brohm was obviously pleased with Miller Moss’s first game as a Cardinal.

I thought he did a really good job. He was composed, he was efficient, he was accurate. The first interception, which was a little bit high of a pass on just a simple hitch route that got batted up – that one was a misfire. The go route on the interception the next try was right in our hands, but got contested pretty well and got knocked in the air. He made good decisions.

As for my not as knowing mind, I am a smidge more concerned about the two picks.

But 17/25 for 223 and a score is “efficient.” Like Coach said.

#2 Brady Allen was 6/9 in the 3d. A score. Another interception.  A TD pass. Deuce Adams was 2/3 in the let’s get this over with 4th Q.

Caullin Lacy tallied from 93 yards away on the first punt return of the season. Nifty.

He also grabbed four passes for 62 yards, one less catch and one less yard than game leader Chris Bell. Eleven other U of L receivers caught at least one pass.

The Not So Good:

Actually not good at all, as in really disturbing.

106 yards penalized on a dozen transgressions. The majority by starters, as best I recall.

In a game like this, concerning.

I’d love to be more entertaining here. Sorry.

But frankly I was bored. I hate these walkover games.

And, I got distracted late in the opening half, right about the time of Moss surrendering a Pick Six.

I’m part of the Verizon outage. Then and still as I write this Saturday evening. I’m always more serene when my digital world is in order.
