Meet the Mets
The Mets stormed back from an 8-2 deficit only to fall to the Marlins 11-8. Much like the rest of the series thus far, the Mets had their hitting shoes on, but poor pitching and defense cost them. David Peterson was roughed up for five runs in the first inning, but his defense played poorly behind him as well. Mark Vientos brought the Mets close with a three-run homer in the third and Juan Soto hit a solo home run in the fourth and a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth. But the Marlins edged back out in front in the seventh against Tyler Rogers and they scored two insurance runs against Edwin Díaz in the ninth. The Mets threatened, but could not mount a second comeback, making for a gut wrenching loss.
