AC Milan Lodge Bid For Liverpool’s Joe Gomez

The versatile Liverpool defender is wanted by the Italian giants in a permanent move worth £8M-£11 Million.

With the end of the transfer window in sight, one of Liverpool’s longstanding players could be on the move. Multiple sources have reported that AC Milan have lodged a bid for versatile defender Joe Gomez. Both Liverpool and Joe Gomez are said to be in discussions for a permanent deal.

Liverpool had previously stated they would like to keep Gomez, who has served as a depth for both primarily at center back and right back, but has even filled in at times at left back and holding midfielder. Gomez has dealt with a plethora of injury issues over his career that have kept him from nailing down a regular starting spot, but he has stepped into a starting role during important stretches when the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Ibrahima Konaté were injured.

Liverpool are in the process of rebuilding their defensive unit, bringing in starting-caliber fullbacks Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, and have also signed a young talented center back in Giovanni Leoni to replace the departed Jarell Quansah. The Reds are also in negotiations for Marc Guehi, and are said to be close to nailing down the deal. Crystal Palace reportedly pushed to have asked as Gomez on loan as a makeweight for Guehi, but Liverpool were not interested in allowing Gomez to leave on loan.

The Reds, however, are apparently open to a permanent deal for Gomez, with AC Milan launching a bid with just a day and a half left in the transfer window. The Italian giants initially attempted to sign Manuel Akanji to bolster their defensive unit, but they were turned down by the player who stated he wanted Champions League football. They have turned their attentions now to Gomez in a deal that is reportedly worth between £8M-£11 Million. It is said that Gomez is open to the move, but no agreement is in place yet between the player in AC Milan. Wages are typically a sticking point when continental clubs come in for Premier League players, but a chance to be a regular starter is likely very enticing for Gomez. From Liverpool’s perspective, any agreement to a deal to allow Gomez to leave would be dependent on Marc Guehi incoming.
