Here are five players who stood out for LSU football in the Tigers' massive season opening win at Clemson
On Saturday night, Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers got the 2025 season started with one of the most highly touted games of the weekend. The No. 9 Tigers travelled to Clemson, South Carolina, to take on the No. 4 Clemson Tigers. LSU was 0-5 in season openers with Brian Kelly at the helm entering Saturday, but that discussion is over. LSU fans are glad Alabama was the one stuck with Florida State this year.
This LSU team is full of talent, and a big win over Clemson would start the season off in the best way possible. LSU was able to pull it off with a 17-10 victory. We are going to take a look at five players from tonight's game who stood out in my eyes.
1. Garrett Nussmeier
LSU Senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is entering his final season on the bayou. He has the ability to take this team all the way and be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. His performance tonight in the "wannabe Death Valley" was stellar. He finished the game 28-for-38, throwing for 230 yards and a touchdown.
2. Aaron Anderson
What a start to the 2025 season for Aaron Anderson. He was Nussmeier's go-to receiver tonight, hauling in six catches for 99 yards to lead all Tigers receivers. He was able to showcase his speed as he used it to get open multiple times against a very good Clemson defense. Anderson was LSU's leading receiver in 2024 and looks to be on the same track.
3. Caden Durham
Caden Durham has stepped up as a Sophomore to lead the Tigers as their starting running back. He got off to a hot start to the season tonight as he carried the ball 17 times for 74 yards and a touchdown.
4. Harold Perkins
Man, it is great to see the Harold Perkins we all know and love. This is the Perkins that we saw be a star as a Freshman on the Bayou. He is aggressive, physical, and he can be a game-changer for the Tigers' defense. Perkins finished the night with a team-high five tackles, including one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry.
5. LSU Defense
I am going to call an audible for my fifth pick. Staying on that defensive train, thank you, Blake Baker, for coming back to LSU and getting these guys right. Tonight's defense was very reminiscent of old LSU defenses. I did not have to avert my eyes every time the Tigers were on defense. I was excited to see what these guys would do. They held Clemson to 219 total yards and only 10 points.
